This artwork and most of my artwork since 2020 has been inspired by the times we live in. Climate upheaval, global political awakening, how the pandemic altered our realities. I didn’t realize I was creating this narrative until over a drink one night during the summer of 2020 I said to my wife that “I’m not a political artist” and she out loud laughed in my face. I didn’t realize as I was painting that I was tuned into the world so deeply until that moment. The interplay between nature, human society, and time is my focus on the more recent work in my career. It has been difficult for me to accept that at my core I am acutely aware of the tumult and renewal occurring in the world around me and that I have an intrinsic need to express it through my work. The media used is also a shift for me. Until 2020 I didn’t often stray from acrylics. But, I opened my mind to other and new media and it has influenced my work as I pushed limits and explored how materials considered too “low” for fine art would work in a fine art application.
