Currently I have been working on a body of work depicting the western experience. I have fallen in love with the history, landscape, and the people in which call the west their home, past and present. I enjoy the entwining of the abstract with the representational, insuring neither is complete without the other, creating a visual and emotional experience for the viewer. I do not like to limit myself to one particular genre or style of expression, opening myself up to the evolutionary properties of the medium of pastel and acrylic paint, utilizing insulation board as my working surface. The completed painting is clear coated with UV polyurethane protectant.
This is a 48x60 inch pastel and acrylic painting of a cowboy on his horse running through the water in a dramatic fashion. The water helps to create the emotion of urgency. The painting surface is insulation board and the painted surface is protected with a clear coat of polyurethane.
